Photovoltaic Digital Charge Controllers
1- Introduction:-
This specification defines the technical requirements for a heavy duty Photovoltaic Digital Charge controllers. This charge controllers consists of all interconnect Accessories and installation materials.
2- Environmental :-
The photovoltaic power system charge controllers shall be suitable for locations at remote places where no operation, maintenance services and attendance are available. The system shall be capable of withstanding extreme temperatures from10 Deg. C up to +55 deg. C and relative humidity up to 98%.
3. Capacity;-
The nominal rated capacity of the system is for delivering continuous photovoltaic current to charge the battery and feed the load with the following capacity:-
— Photovoltaic capacity 60A—48Vcd and load capacity up to 30A—48VdC (positive grounded).
— The charge Controller shall be brand new.
4. A charge controller shall be designed for industrial and heavy duty usage, and shall be act to monitor and control the overall working and functions of the photovoltaic system. The regulation should be such as to cause minimum heat generation during charging process. It shall be flexible to be used with any system of photovoltaic and batteries.
5. The controller should be provided in dual inputs coming from the solar array to the controller to grant Charging continuity.
6. The Tenderer shall instate the method conducted dissipate the excess energy generated during the solar radiation periods.
7. The Capacity of the controller should be at least within the requested capacity or more.
8. The following information shall be furnished by the tenderer:-
i. capacity of charger controller
ii. Action to prevent over charging (such as automatic disconnection /reconnection of charging circuit)/battery low voltage load disconnect etc.) ‘
iii. Tracking of battery temperature, battery voltage and array output.
iv. Temperature compensation arrangements.
V. all voltage and current measures of all sides of the system.
vi. All protection system offered by the controller.
Vii all remote and telemetry observing and controlling offered by the controller and also the parameters, can be modified at site (the parameters site modifications shall be clarified). '
9. Functions:-
9.l The charge controller shall have at least the following functions:-
i. ON and off control for over charging of battery.
ii. Indication of above status.
iii. Protection for excessive current.
iv. ON and off control for over discharge of battery (automatically).
v. Indication of above status.
vi. Alarm for low battery voltage.
vii. Indication for battery voltage.
viii. Indication of solar array open voltage.
ix. Indications of solar output current.
x. Indication of load current. .
xi. Metering for all input/ output current, voltage and temperature.
9.2 The charge controller shall be provided with battery temperature sensor which shall correct the set points for battery charge and discharge suitably.
10. system Alarms & Protection:-
l0. l A comprehensive fail—safe alarm system shall be provided to cover all the important functions of the total power system.
10.2 The following protections shall be provided:—
I. Battery Low Voltage:-
- Alarm corresponding to nominal cell voltage of 1.8V (adjustable at site by +/- 0.Iv)
- battery auto-cutoff corresponding to cell voltage of 1.75 (adjustable by +/—0.05v)
ii. Battery high Voltages:-
- Alarm at battery terminal voltage corresponding to 2.45v per cell (adjustable to +/—0.1v at site).
- Input feed auto-cutoff at battery terminal voltage corresponding to 2.55v per cell (Adjustable to +/—0.05v at site).
iii. DC out (load Point) Voltages:
- Regulation of DC. output voltage
- alarm if the voltage is out of range of-46.8 and -56v
IV Load Current Limited:-
Provision shall be made to limit the load current to within 110% of nominal value.
V. The circuit boards and components confirmally coated for corrosion humidity protection.
11. Protection and interconnect the parts of the system:
11.1. Protection for all system for reverse current follow.
11.2 Protection for all system of lightning and any power sparks.
11.3 Protection for all system short circuit.
11.4 Protection for over load/ over heat.
11.5 earthing terminals for all devices of the system.
11.6 Fuses terminal boxes for arrays input to the controller, the battery, and for the load terminals.
11.7 Surge protector shall be provided.
11.8 Lightning arrestors should be provided in the charge controller.
11.9 Positive grounded should be provided inside the charge controller (built in).
12. Scope of Supply:
12.1 The Tenderer shall supply charge controllers with circuit breakers with fuses for
P.V array, batteries & loads, protection devices and all other charge controller installation materials including connectors.
12.2 The Tenderer shall provide the following information:-
i. Charge controllers block diagram and circuit diagrams. (Should be provided)
ii. Specify the mechanical dimensions of charge controllers (Width, height, depth, weight).
iii. Full and detail technical specification with all alarms, measurements, protection and features.
12.3 Full technical literature shall be submitted along with the tender documents.
12.4 He shall supply three sets of all documents for installation, testing, operation, maintenance and for acceptance tests, hard & Sot copy.
12.5 Information’s, drawings and other aids required for the repair of printed circuit boards shall be provided.
12.6 Tenderer should provide the charge Controller’s test performance, quality and ISO certificates.
12.7 The charge controller unit and in each main part of it, should be protected against current reversal direction, lightning,
sparks, earth leakage. Lightning should be protected using gas-tub devices. .
12.8 Tenderer shall provide with his offer a sample unit for the offered charge controller. (Offer without sample will be
automatically rejected).
12.9 The tenderer shall confirm that if he win he will provide the factory test certificate of the tender, the certificate of
origin of the charge controller in the date of delivery controllers.
13. Installation and Training:
13.1 Tenderer shall install one of the offered chargers at PTC workshop.
13.2 The winning tenderer shall train PTC stuff the following:
